Google Core Update 2023 is commercial

Google's search results reflect the development of the monopolist. Anyone looking for information increasingly receives sales pages that provide little information. Clearly, Google wants to trick us into buying, not getting smarter.

The fact that the EU Parliament has not long since forced the data octopus to disclose the search algorithm and break up the Google monopoly shows that the politicians there are not internet experts or are cowering from Google's power. Perhaps EU politicians are distracted from the facts by a lot of lobbying. I hardly dare think about bribery.

These total failures of the EU ensure that we click on data protection regulations every day and that we click away cookie warnings. But these politicians cannot get a handle on the worst data protection violations by Google, the collection of data as a life's work, and the intensification of users' dependence on Google through more and more networks. Brexit wasn't clever, but I can now understand the British well.

Google alternative for searching the internet

Google search results no thanks? I recommend these search engines as an alternative (please mention your favorites in the comment):

• DuckDuckGo
• Startpage

For many of these search engines you will find a corresponding app on your mobile device (smartphone/tablet). On desktop computers or notebooks, you can usually set DuckDuckGo as the default search engine in the settings of the browser (Safari, Firefox, Opera, Edge). In most cases you cannot select Startpage straight away. Then, depending on your browser, you have two options:

1. You can replace one of the previous entries (e.g. Bing) with the other search engines and then select it. (Screenshots below)
2. You can enter one of the two search engines as the homepage (which appears automatically when opening an empty website) in the browser settings.

But it's even easier than registering yourself. For example, if you open DuckDuckGo (my preference), depending on your browser, you will already be suggested to set the search engine as the default. Alternatively, DuckDuckGo also has a browser available that you can install. That's really easy then.

Testing is above studying

Before installing, I would definitely recommend that you try out the various search engines and compare the search results with those from Google. I liked DuckDuckGo the best as a search engine, but like everything in life, it's a matter of taste. The fact is that with the Google Core Update 2023, search results on Google have become predominantly commercial. The constant YouTube suggestions bother me as well as the poorly labeled advertising at the top of the search results.
